Panel Discussion: Women in Governance
On April 28, 2015, IWSAW in partnership with the Ministry of Social Affairs and in collaboration with the National Commission for Lebanese Women, hosted a panel discussion entitled “Women in Governance”. The panel falls within the context of the Ministry’s project entitled “Promoting Women’s Participation in Local Governance and Development” funded by the Italian Embassy in Lebanon, Office of Italian Cooperation for Development.
The panelists included Ms. Diana Moukalled, as moderator, Dr. Fadia Kiwan, professor and director at the Institute of Political Science at the Saint Joseph University, Dr. Lina Alameddine, director of the Partnership Center for Development and Democracy (PCDD) and strategic consultant to various political parties in Lebanon as well as Ms. Dala Ghandour, a young lawyer who ran as an independent candidate for the municipal elections in 2010.
The event was interactive where the audience and students in attendance benefited from the testimonies of the experienced experts and learned more about how to empower women to reach decision-making positions in light of the current confessional political system in Lebanon.
