International Women’s Day
We marked the International Women’s Day with a symposium titled: “Challenges Ahead: Women, Activism, Social Media and the Arab Spring”.
The celebration took place on March 5, 2012 in LAU Irwin Hall Auditorium with the presence of professors, students, government officials, NGOs representatives.
The symposium hosted women activists from Egypt and Yemen, who played a major role in fighting against autocracy and oppression in the ongoing popular Arab uprisings. A video on the role of Arab women in regional revolutions was presented by Al-Arabiya journalist Alia Ibrahim. Following the screening, journalist and author Diana Moukalled, moderated a discussion with the three women activists who related their experiences of the Arab Spring.
