Regional Roundtable: Challenges Facing Iraqi Women Seeking Their Legal Rights

The Institute for Women’s Studies in the Arab World (IWSAW) at the Lebanese American University (LAU) in cooperation with Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) Amman and Women Empowerment Organization (WEO) organized a regional roundtable on February 27 & 28, 2013.

Major topics discussed during the two days covered the following:
CEDAW and the importance of committing to the international agreements, Discrimination against women in Iraqi legislation, Challenges facing the elimination of the discrimination against women, Women’s Laws in Kurdistan in comparison with the rules in federal government, Suggested strategies for addressing women’s rules, The Lebanese experience in dealing with the personal status law, The Syrian experience in dealing with the personal status law.
