Launching of the Training Sessions on the Basic Living Skills Program

Given the success of the training that was implemented for the different Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) and Social Development Centers (SDCs) in 2013, UNFPA-Lebanon office expressed interest in collaborating with IWSAW once again to hold a series of training sessions within the framework of the Basic Living Skills Program (BLSP).

The training sessions started on October 5 and lasted for 4 consecutive days until October 8, 2015. It targeted 20 qualified social workers to equip them with the necessary knowledge and skills in order to work with marginalized and displaced Syrian women in the Bekaa area in order to empower them as well as Lebanese women in the hosting communities.

The second phase of the project started on October 26, 2015. It consisted of coaching sessions and close follow-up with the trained social workers during the roll out of the BLSP to 4,000 Syrian and Lebanese women and girls from the local communities.

IWSAW has thirty years of experience in training on the BLSP kit. The kit is geared toward non-formal education in Arabic focusing on illiterate and semi-illiterate women in order to improve the quality of their lives and their families. The knowledge package covers topics such as health, environment, nutrition, reproductive health, civic education, conflict mitigation, disabilities, and gender-based violence.
