IWSAW at the Consultative Experts Group Meeting organized by UN-ESCWA and CMRS
Myriam Sfeir, IWSAW Assistant Director, represented the Institute at the Consultative Experts Group Meeting (EGM) on “The Social and Economic Situation of Women in Conflict Stricken Countries in the Arab Region organized by UN-ESCWA Center for Women and the Center for Migration and Refugee Studies (CMRS). The meeting took place on October 7 and 8, 2015 in Cairo, Egypt.
The EGM brought together experts and representatives of international and civil society organizations to examine the initial findings of a UN-ESCWA study focused on the issue of women in conflict. The meeting served as a platform for discussion towards better understanding of the effects of various forms of conflict in contemporary Arab States on women, and of the role of different stakeholders in safeguarding the rights and safety of female populations in humanitarian settings.
