Book launch by Yakin Erturk
On December 15, 2016 IWSAW was honored to host, Dr. Yakin Erturk, former UN Special Rapporteur on Violence Against Women, to launch her book ‘Violence without Borders: Paradigm, policy and praxis concerning violence against women’.
The book launch was organized by IWSAW at LAU in collaboration with Women’s Learning Partnership (WLP), and Collective for Research and Training on Development-Action (CRTD-A).
Guests of honor included H.E the Dutch Ambassador Schaapveld, whom expressed his optimism and faith in the Lebanese people in advancing women’s rights, thus human rights, declaring that “we can, especially Lebanese can, and will live to the heritage of Charles Malik’s legacy.”
Finally, the spot light was on Dr. Erturk who gave a brief overview of the global, regional and national status of women.Dr. Erturk proclaimed that the “war on women is not over, it has just begun, because women have become successful which makes them a target”.
She concluded with an advice to young girls and women- “Care and get angry, rage gives you courage”!
The event ended with a discussion on the book, the strategies that we should follow to advance gender equality, and the role of youth in this matter, followed by a book signing.
