AiW at ICPD25!
AiW had a significant presence at the International Conference on Population and Development (ICPD) which was held in Nairobi, Kenya in November 2019 as a celebration of its 25th anniversary. Dr. Lina Abirafeh, AiW Executive Director, and Moufeeda Haidar, Lead Gender Integration Specialist at AiW, participated in several sessions at the Summit.
The ICPD25 aimed to mobilize the political will and financial commitments which are needed to fully implement the ICPD Programme of Action which set out to empower women and girls for their sake, and for the benefit of their families, communities, and nations. The Summit covers several themes related to the field while highlighting the power of gender equality, youth leadership, political and community leadership, innovation and data, and partnerships to accelerate progress throughout.
The Summit focuses to bring all participants to work together, which include heads of states, ministers, parliamentarians, thought-leaders, technical experts, civil society organizations, young people, business and community leaders, indigenous people, people with disabilities, and many others interested in the pursuit of sexual and reproductive health and rights.
Proudly, Dr. Lina and Moufeeda took part in several sessions at the Summit where Dr. Lina was a speaker in several ones, like SheDecides, the opening plenary, and “Fulfilling the Cairo Promise in a Fragile World”.
