The two articles in this monograph examine the growth of Arab women’s access to higher education.

<<Women and Higher Education>>, by Edith A.S. Hanania sketches the history of women’s education in the Arab countries, the factors contributing to its rise and progress, the recent shift of emphasis from the Arts and Humanities to Science and related majors leading to the practice of non- traditional professions.

<<Arab Women and General Education>>, by Munir Bashshour presents the constant rise in the percentage of girls at all three levels of education in all Arab countries. He contrasts progressive educational methods with conservative ones and discusses the attitudes of the new female generation toward woman’s education and work. He also discusses the social and economic effects of women’s integration in development.
